Looking for something to do this Labor Day weekend? Head to Phoenix Cooks, where more than 50 local chefs and restaurants will treat you to food and beverage samples on Saturday, September 5, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Westin Kierland Resort and Spa in Scottsdale.
Tickets to the Valley’s biggest annual food event start at $85 for general admission, if purchased online (fees apply) and in advance, but include unlimited food, wine, beer, and spirit sampling. Designated driver tickets that allow unlimited food only (no beer, wine, or spirits) are available online for $60. Prices go up at the door, at $100 for general admission and $75 for designated drivers.
It’s a bit pricey, but you can sample food all day from some of Phoenix’s most popular restaurants, including:
- Wrights at the Biltmore
- Barrio Queen
- Brat Haus
- Bourbon Steak
- Lon’s at the Hermosa
- North Italia
- Orange Sky
- Top of the Rock
- The Greene House
The ticket also entitles you to sample beers from Guinness, Lagunitas Brewing, Samuel Adams, and Sapporo, to name a few. If you prefer local beers, watch for offerings from Phoenix Ale Brewery, Lumberyard Brewing, Nimbus Brewing, and Oak Creek Brewing.
You can also taste wines, including vintages from Beringer, Chateau St. Jean, Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards, Duckhorn Wine Company, and Stag’s Leap. Or, you can sip drinks made from Disaronno, Hiro Sake, New Amsterdam Vodka, New Amsterdam Gin, Smirnoff Ice, and Tito’s Vodka.
When you need to give your taste buds a rest, take a seat in front of the main stage, where pairs of chefs will battle to see who makes the best dish with a mystery ingredient. Or, catch the ongoing cooking demonstrations by various chefs every half hour.
If that’s not enough, Phoenix Cooks will also host beer and wine-tasting classes throughout the day. Admission to these classes is limited and costs an additional $25 in advance. On the day of the event, the price will drop to $15.
