This year, The Country Club at DC Ranch was chosen by the USGA (United States Golf Association) to host the Men’s and Women’s US Open qualifiers. The Country Club at DC Ranch is the first club ever to be chosen to host both qualifiers in the same year.
The men’s qualifier was held first, with 4 golfers advancing to the regional golf tournaments held at Lake Merced and The Olympic Club in San Francisco. Regionals is the final step before golfers are able to advance to the US Open in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
One of the Country Club’s very own golf professionals, Marco Gomez, was one of the 4 golfers to be chosen to advance to regionals this year.
On the women’s side of the competition, 3 out of 69 golfers were chosen to advance to the Open Championship at Pinehurst.
In the June newsletter of the Country Club at DC Ranch, Dick Hyland, the Director of Golf, provided a review of the tournaments. He mentioned that he told USGA officials that “in over 240 qualifying rounds played [at the Club] over the last three years, the lowest round of all was but two under par, which says a great deal about the strength of the course and playing surfaces.”
