Thinking about changing the color scheme of your home for the upcoming year? The big boys have weighed in and you might be surprised at their picks!
The biggest shocker comes from the Pantone Color Institute and their choice is called Greenery. While some will use it on the exterior of their home, here in the Southwest you likely will only find it inside the home.
Most exterior paint choices in the Scottsdale communities are governed by their HOA guidelines and we can guarantee you won’t be seeing this on any local homes anytime soon. Inside the home is another matter and Greenery is a bold selection with an edgy attitude and that just might be what is in store for 2017!
If you are looking for a back-to-basics color palette that will last over time, you might want to gravitate toward Benjamin Moore’s Shadow, Sherwin-Williams’ Poised Taupe, or Glidden’s Byzantine Blue. These color selections work well with our technology driven lives and we all know the trendy metallic colors continue to be “in” with the exception of copper. However, Arizona was founded on the four C’s—copper, citrus, cotton and cattle, and it’s doubtful copper will ever be out of vogue in this state!
Surprisingly, Dunn-Edward’s selection of Honey Glow singles them out and puts them in their own camp. Honey Glow will work well for both interior and exterior application here in the desert with its rich yellow tones that scream earthiness.
But if you really want to add color to your home this year, the vibrant choices by PPG Paints (Violet Verbena) and Olympic (Cloudberry) are the direction you want to head. If you are looking for color, deep grayish blues and purples are the go-to choices this year!
It’s important to note that if you are planning on selling your home soon your best bet is a neutral palette such as a clean white or cream and to opt out of selecting anything with color.
