In the remaining days of summer here in the desert, you may want to check out Tempe Town Lake, home to rowing, sculling, paddle boarding, kayaking, dragon boating and outrigger paddling. Yes, you can enjoy water adventures in the center of the greater Phoenix area!

The City of Tempe has designed classes for both beginners and experienced athletes. Their Learn to Row class is perfect for those looking to try this fantastic sport. There are Intermediate and Open Rowing classes designed for more experienced athletes and those looking to challenge themselves on the race course. (Yes, race course!)
Rowing is divided into “sweep” and “sculling” disciplines. Sweep rowers each use a single oar, while sculling rowers use two smaller oars. Boats capable of seating 2, 4, and 8 individuals are used for sweep racing; sculling rowers use, single, double and four person shells (quads or 4x).
Sound overwhelming? Maybe SUP is your speed. SUP, short for Stand up Paddleboard is offered in conjunction with yoga. Paddle around the lake, move to shore for some invigorating yoga, share in a few minutes of quiet mediation before jumping back on the board to head home. You won’t want to miss the remaining classes on the summer schedule this week-end. Or how about the slower pace of a moonlight kayak offered this evening?
The summer Summer Schedule is coming to an end but there is a great line up for Fall classes.
There’s no better place to be in August but in and on the water!
