Don Matheson interviews Dr. William Banchs, President and CEO of Scottsdale Cultural Council

Don Matheson August 1, 2011

The Scottsdale Cultural Council presents art. They do this by making the arts an integral part of the Scottsdale experience, by offering opportunities for residents and visitors to experience the highest quality the world has to offer in performing and visual arts, and by identifying emerging artistic talent and providing a place for its expression.

When most people think of Scottsdale, AZ they do not immediately think of it as having a great art scene? However, it does! The Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale and features hundreds of performances a year, from Operas to Ballets, it is a great place to enjoy a show. Once a year, Scottsdale hosts the annual Scottsdale Art Festival which features 200 artists from throughout the United States, top notch live music and entertainment and delicious fare from some of the Valley’s best restaurants. This is a great festival that is open to everyone. From those living in areas like Ancala to those just in town for a short visit, all more than welcome to come and enjoy the show!

The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art brings to Arizona art, architecture and design that challenges expectations. They are not a typical museum filled with random selections of art from the past. SMoCA engages the ideas and concerns of the present—the ideas that interest, trouble and perplex you are the same ones that artists investigate in exhibitions at the museum. This season SMoCA will present artists obscure and fascinating, famous and acclaimed, humble and boisterous. Their ideas will challenge you to see the world anew.

The Scottsdale Public Art Program invites residents and visitors to explore our City’s Public Art Collection. Sculpture and integrated artworks are located throughout the City in parks, libraries, along our roadways, in public buildings and in other public places. The Program was established in 1985 and is dedicated to enhancing urban spaces by commissioning art that creates a sense of place and improves the built environment.

Enjoy art? If you’re now convinced that you can’t miss out on the amazing art scene in Scottsdale, AZ for another second, then you’re not alone. Join in on the fun by looking for a home for sale today! You can also give us a call at 480-351-5359. We’re looking forward to speaking with you.
