Kitchens rank pretty highly on homebuyer’s lists – and if you’re selling a condo in Scottsdale, you need to know how to stage yours to make it as appealing as possible to prospective buyers. Use these tips on how to stage your condo’s kitchen to sell quickly (and at the right price).
How to Stage Your Condo’s Kitchen to Sell
The way your condo’s kitchen looks can make or break a sale, so use these tips to ensure yours is impressing prospective buyers:
- Clean and declutter everything (including drawers and cupboards)
- Paint the ceiling white
- Check your backsplash
- Choose your displays wisely
- Add a little excitement
Here’s a closer look at each tip.
#1. Clean and declutter everything (including drawers and cupboards)
Your REALTOR® has most likely already suggested that you stage your condo – and maybe he or she has even suggested a specific home stager – but it all starts with cleaning and decluttering. Buyers want to see plenty of space, and the best way to show it to them is to ensure your kitchen is spotless.
Cupboards and drawers count, too. Buyers will open everything, which means nothing is off-limits when it comes to decluttering. Even if your kitchen isn’t cluttered, it’s essential that you remove everything you haven’t used in the last 6 months (and if you have a small kitchen, that goes for everything you haven’t used in the last 3 months). You can choose to donate or sell the items you remove, or you can put them in storage until you move into your next home.
#2. Paint the ceiling white
A white ceiling draws the eye upward, so if your condo’s kitchen is a little on the cozy side, this might be a great idea. This is particularly true if your walls aren’t white – and remember, the lighter the shades on your walls, the larger the space will appear.
#3. Check your backsplash
If your sink’s backsplash is a bit dated, now is the time to update it. Consider using vertical lines between the counter and window if the space is small – that, like a white ceiling, draws the eye up and makes the space appear taller.
#4. Choose your displays wisely
Keep your counters as clear as possible. Buyers like to see that there’s plenty of space for working, even if they’re not culinary experts. Take the appliances off the counter and put them in cupboards. Limit yourself to a knife rack, a fruit bowl and – if there’s still space – a recipe holder.
Pro tip: Put away the dish soap, sponge and other dish-doing accoutrements.
#5. Add a little excitement
Create an accent wall that serves as a focal point. Think about adding floating shelves to create depth and visual interest, or create an art display with a specific theme (think coffee, city lights or something else that appeals to a wide audience).
