During the summer, the Desert Botanical Garden offers summer Flashlight Tours, a “sensory experience where you will see, hear and feel the desert night.” The tours are unguided, but this just means that you can explore the garden at your own pace. The tours run from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm daily.
This is a great way to experience the Desert Botanical Garden, one of Scottsdale’s most beautiful attractions, a 140 acre property (65 acre site) which showcases over 50,000 desert plant species.
If you’re a gardener or a desert wildlife advocate, and would like to live in an area close to the Desert Botanical Garden, contact a Scottsdale real estate expert to find your dream property in the desert. Scottsdale has many neighborhoods whose mission is to exist as unobtrusively as possible in order to preserve the integrity of the desert landscape (such as DC Ranch and Silverleaf).
According to the Desert Botanical’s Website, Discover Stations along the tours include:
- Agave Discovery Station
- Saguaro Discovery Station
- Mesquite Discovery Station
- Palo Verde Discovery Station
- Night Bloomers Station (June)
- Insect Discovery Station
- Tarantula and Scorpion Discovery Station
- Gecko/Lizard Discovery Station
- Snake Discovery Station
- Desert Tortoise Discovery Station
- Frog/Toad Discovery Station
- Night birds/Bats Discovery Station
- Naked Eye Sky Discovery Station
Flashlight tours require you to bring your own flashlight (though if you forget yours, they have flashlights available for purchase). On top of regular tours, ‘Flashlight Tour birthday parties’ and ‘Girl Scout Badge Programs’ can also be booked. It’s a great way to get your kids out of the house to learn more about the desert landscape and Scottsdale’s nocturnal animals.
