An American Southwest tradition, bull riding has been called “the most dangerous eight seconds in sports”. Well, you’ll want to mosey on up to The Buffalo Chip in Cave Creek where every Wednesday and Friday evenings you can watch these courageous cowboys hang on for dear life. No mechanical bulls in this arena, it’s the real deal with amateurs riding on Wednesday nights and the pros pulling out all stops on Friday nights.

This is an evening the entire family will enjoy with some vittles around the firepit before you head into the stands under the blaring spotlights. If you plan to eat, you may want to get there early – long lines form for the BBQ outside or you can head inside for the standing fish fry offered only on Fridays.

Cowboys are king and that’s how you’ll want to dress because there is nothing glamorous about watching bull riding, but it sure is fun! With a lot of hay, dirt and crisp evening air this is a time to pull out the jeans, cowboy hat, boots, bandana and jacket.

At the end of the evening, after the bulls are loaded and ready to be transported back to the ranch, the brave little buck-a-roos come out for some mutton busting – not to be missed!

Both visitors and locals come out on Fridays for one big party with live country music, dancing, bull riding and other entertainment depending on the date.

So, for some good wholesome family fun and adventure head up to The Buffalo Chip to watch some bull buckin’ rears, kicks, twists and spins!

Check out The Buffalo Chip’s free country-western dance lessons on Thursday nights.
