Scottsdale is an amazing city – and we’re not just saying that because we live, work and play here. It’s home to some of Arizona’s most famous places (and some off-the-beaten-path hotspots, too). If you’re new to the area, or if you’re thinking about moving here, these are nine must-see Scottsdale attractions.
9 Must-See Scottsdale-Area Attractions
Whether hiking rugged terrain is your jam or you prefer to test your luck with every roll of the dice in a cool, comfortable casino, there’s something for you in Scottsdale. Check out our nine most popular attractions so you don’t miss a thing:
- Camelback Mountain
- Papago Park
- Taliesin West
- Talking Stick Resort
- Old Town Scottsdale
- OdySea Aquarium
- McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park
- Butterfly Wonderland
- Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art
Here’s a closer look at each.
Camelback Mountain
Although Camelback Mountain is technically in Phoenix, this monumental mountain – shaped like a kneeling camel – is a must-see landmark. You can hike one of a number of trails, enjoy quiet time and a picnic at a park in the Camelback Mountain Echo Canyon Recreation Area, and enjoy some of the most spectacular sunsets from the summit.
Papago Park
Papago Park, like Camelback Mountain, is technically located in Phoenix (and partly in Tempe, too). It includes Hunt’s Tomb, on the National Register of Historic Places, and it’s a great place to hike. You can also visit Hole-in-the-Rock, the park’s most popular scenic viewpoint.
Taliesin West
Architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home, Taliesin West, is currently the headquarters of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. It’s open to the public for tours, and it’s truly an architectural wonder.
Talking Stick Resort
The Talking Stick Resort is a luxury hotel and casino on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation. The 15-story hotel is a wonderful place for a weekend staycation, and the casino is always fun. The 25,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom, spectacular spa and lounge pool are all popular visiting spots – and the venue often hosts concerts and shows, as well.
Old Town Scottsdale
Old Town Scottsdale is home to hundreds of shops, restaurants, bars and galleries, and it’s completely walkable. In fact, the area is perfect for evening walks – and there’s really something for everyone.
OdySea Aquarium
OdySea Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the Southwest. With more than 2 million gallons of water and an area of more than 200,000 square feet, you’ll find more than 30,000 animals across 500 species in its exhibits. There are educational, interactive and always-entertaining experiences.
McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park
Perhaps the most popular park in town, McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park spans 40 acres. This fun spot features a Magma Arizona Railroad locomotive, a railroad museum, and plenty of places to play for kids (and adults) of all ages.
Butterfly Wonderland
Butterfly Wonderland is an interactive atrium featuring gorgeous butterflies from all over the world. You can learn about Monarch migration, watch live chrysalis as they emerge into beautiful butterflies, and spend time in the conservatory, where butterflies are happy to land on you for photo ops.
Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art
Called SMoCA by fans, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art is in the Old Town district. You’ll find four galleries with a wide range of exhibitions, including rotating shows. You’ll find spectacular specimens of modern works of art, design and architecture.
