When you’re buying a new home for sale in Scottsdale, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to make it your own – and that includes outdoor lighting.
Check out these five types of outdoor lighting so you can make the most of your yard this year.
5 Types of Outdoor Lighting to Spruce Up Your Yard This Summer
Most homeowners kind-of “wing it” when it comes to landscaping and outdoor lighting, but when you’re armed with this knowledge, you’ll make the best possible decisions about fixing up your outdoor living space. These are the most common outdoor lighting types:
- Wall lanterns
- Spotlights
- Flood lights
- Path lights
- Lampposts
Wall Lanterns
Wall lanterns – the lights you see outside your front door, on the sides of the garage door and beside sliding glass doors that lead to your backyard – are some of the most common. They’re available in a huge range of styles, which means you can pick something ultra-modern or something chic and rustic – it just depends on the style tack you’re taking with your outdoor living space.
Spotlights
While most people use spotlights to accentuate outdoor features like shrubs, trees, flagpoles and water features, you can also install them at the bases of each of your porch columns. Many people use them to frame a front door, which provides extra security and a nice look, too. Spotlights typically produce a bright beam that aims directly at something.
Flood Lights
Flood lights are mainly about security. They provide a wider swath of light than spotlights do, and they’re designed to be more powerful. You can use flood lights along the entry and exit points in your house; some are available with timers or motion detectors, too, so they’re not always lit if you don’t want them to be.
Path Lights
Safety and style combined – that’s what you get when you use path lighting. You’ll be able to see where your next step will land when you install path lights, which can range from small lamps you can stick into the ground beside walkways to lights that a contractor can embed in your walking surface (or in the risers on outdoor stairs).
Lampposts
Made to provide ambient light, lampposts are great for lining walkways or installing near decks, patios and porches. They’ll cast a glow in a circle that extends out in every direction. Lampposts aren’t great for task lighting unless they’re situated directly beside the area while you’ll be working, though.
