5 Great Outdoor Projects to Tackle if You’re Getting Ready to Sell Your Home

Spring is here, and the weather has been nothing short of perfect for the past few weeks. Before it starts to get hot outside, check out these five great projects you can take care of now so your house is ready to sell this summer:

  1. Pull weeds
  2. Plant bulbs and seedlings
  3. Organize and clean your tools
  4. Give your mailbox a pick-me-up
  5. Redo some garden pots

Here’s a closer look at each.

Pull Weeds

It’s everyone’s favorite springtime chore – pulling weeds! But seriously, you can get some good, old-fashioned fresh air and sunshine when you put on a pair of gardening gloves and pull weeds from the rocks in your yard. If you have the stubborn sorts of weeds (we’re looking at you, goat’s heads), you can pour a mixture of 1 gallon of white vinegar, 1 cup of salt and 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap on them while the sun is shining brightly first. Then, wait a few days to collect the dead weeds.

Plant Bulbs and Seedlings

Whether you’re planting in pots or in the ground, now is a great time to put bulbs and seedlings in. If you have water-forced bulbs you’ve been keeping through the winter, or if you have seedlings, you can transfer them now. You can also start the seeds for annuals right now.

Organize and Clean Your Tools

Check out your gardening gear and landscaping tools – or your other tools – and start cleaning everything. See what you still use (and what you don’t), and think about donating your excess to make some more room in your space. When you’re done going through what you have, organize it all and put it back in your shed or garage neatly. Think about using a peg board to stash all your stuff within easy reach.

Give Your Mailbox a Pick-Me-Up

Depending on your HOA’s rules, now might be the right time for you to spruce up your mailbox. You can fix any blemishes first, then apply a fresh coat of paint and some new house numbers. While you’re at it, plant some bright, colorful annuals around its base.

Redo Some Garden Pots

If you’re like most of us, you have plenty of brown terra cotta pots in your garage or even in your backyard. You can breathe new life into them by hitting them with spray paint or acrylic paint. To do it properly, clean them and let them dry in the sun. Use a clay pot sealer or paint primer so your paint lasts longer, and then let your pots dry between coats so you can have long-lasting results.
