Looking for that special something, be it a gift or a decorative piece for your home? Look no further than Sundance, the Salt Lake City, Utah-based store that sells unique, one-of-a-kind clothing, jewelry, accessories, art, and home décor.

The store that evolved out of a gift shop at Sundance Village, home of the legendary Sundance Film Festival, opened March 3 at Kierland Commons in Scottsdale. It’s the brand’s first Arizona store. Other locations include Lone Tree, CO, Corte Madera, CA, Southlake, TX, Dallas, TX, and Edina, MN.

Sundance has an outlet store in Salt Lake City and plans to open several retail stores throughout the country this year, according to a press release.

“For us, it is a privilege to curate distinctive and artisanal collections, many pieces of which are exclusive to Sundance,” said Sundance CEO Matey Erdos in a press release.

“We are thrilled to provide this experience to our loyal customers in the Scottsdale area who have a strong affinity and loyalty towards Sundance. We are confident our new store will be a great success.”

The store traces its beginnings to 1969 when actor Robert Redford purchased land at the base of 12,000-foot Mount Timpanogos in Utah’s Wasatch Mountains. Once inhabited by Ute tribes, Sundance became a gathering place for artists and nature lovers that is known today as Sundance Village and is the home to the internationally acclaimed Sundance Film Festival.

Redford put it this way: “Sundance is an arts community, a recreational community, a community of people who appreciate the beauty of nature and feel the responsibility to preserve it.”

According to the Sundance website, early visitors would often write to the store at the base of the village asking to purchase items they’d seen there. The demand was so great that in 1989 the store issued the first edition of the Sundance Catalog, offering “the kinds of things that we have been privileged to collect, many of them handcrafted exclusively for Sundance.”

Today, many of the items continue to be made exclusively for Sundance. Click here for more information about the currently featured artists.

The Kierland Commons location is open Monday through Saturday, 10 am-9 pm, and Sunday from 12 pm-6 pm.
