The roaring 20’s hits the streets of Old Town Scottsdale for three days of fun--culminating in the finale--Scottsdale’s very own Grand Prix! While it may not be Monaco, it sure looks and feels like it with shoulder-to-shoulder car aficionados lining the streets in an effort to get an up-close-and-personal look at the miniature vintage race cars as they buzz by.
Granted the roar of engines might be missing Friday night when the single-seat retro 1920s-style Grand Prix cars sit quietly in preparation for race day at the “Gatsby Under the Stars Gala”, however, the following two days will be a continual roar of Gatsby lawn parties, cigar bars, flapper choreographed dancing with a lot of beer and wine enjoyed along the track.
The race starts Sunday morning and it is free to watch along the ½ mile course that winds along Goldwater and 5th Avenue finishing at the bridge at the Scottsdale Waterfront. 1920’s attire is encouraged and if you are looking for a dress with the a Roaring ‘20s theme, check out the Great Gatsby on 5th Avenue and Marshall Way that recently opened and only stocks flapper and flounce!
The premiere event, Grand Prix of Scottsdale takes place November 4th through the 6th at 7135 East Camelback Road with many of the local shops and eateries offering race weekend specials. The event is family friendly with a kid’s zone where the kiddos have access to their own cars and race activities.
The weather is perfect so come on out to cheer on the teams and see who will take home the Grand Prix Cup!
