The Phoenix metropolitan area is hosting Super Bowl XLIX on Sunday, February 1, 2015. This is the third time that Phoenix will be hosting the event – the first time was in 1996, and the second in 2008. The event will be held at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.
There’s a reason the Super Bowl committee continues to choose our area to host the Super Bowl. Due to our economy’s strong emphasis on tourism and hospitality, we are well equipped with plenty of hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues. Not to mention, the weather is mild and pretty spectacular in February.

The first Super Bowl took place on January 15, 1967 when the Green Bay Packers took the title over the Kansas City Chiefs.

In 1967, Green Bay players received a $15,000 bonus (in 2014 $ that’s $107,000) for their win and the Chiefs received $7,500 for their appearance.

In 2014, the Seahawks’ players each received a bonus of $92,000 and their opponents, the Broncos, each received $46,000

The Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers have had the most Super Bowl appearances tied at 8 each.

Pittsburgh Steelers have won the most Super Bowls with 6 wins.

Denver Broncos have lost the most Super Bowls with 5 losses.

The NFL pays for as many as 150 Super Bowl rings each year at a minimum cost of $5,000 each.

The NFL also has jewelry made for the losing team that costs about half as much as a ring.

Commercials aired during the Super Bowl are as popular as the game itself, and quite costly. In 1967, a 30 second spot cost $40,000 and in 2014 advertisers paid as much as $4.5 million for a 30 second to two minute advertisement.

Super Bowl XLVIII (48) was the most watched US television show of all time with 111.5 million viewers. In fact 9 of the 10 most watched US TV shows are Super Bowls™. The finale of M*A*S*H* is the only other television show to come close to Super Bowl viewership with a little over 103 million viewers when it aired in 1983.

Roman numerals are used to describe what Super Bowl is being played because the football season occurs during the course of 2 different calendar years.

The Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Tennessee Jaguars, and the Houston Texans are the only teams who have never appeared in a Super Bowl.

The 2015 Super Bowl was originally awarded to Kansas City, but that City was unable to pass tax amendments needed to secure the event. Arizona won the privilege in a face-off with Tampa and Miami.

Super Bowl “L” – The golden anniversary of the big game is scheduled for San Francisco in 2016 and will be the first Super Bowl where the Roman numerals are not used – it will be called “Super Bowl 50″ Believe it or not, the NFL says it’s for aesthetic and marketing purposes; the “L” by itself didn’t look good. The NFL will return to Roman numerals the following year with “Super Bowl LI”
