Shop Small, Shop Local

Shop Small, Shop Local

  • 11/24/16
This weekend is the busiest shopping weekend of the year and the focus is on shopping small and shopping local. You can help support your neighborhoods by shopping small businesses and we’ve created a game plan for you to do just that.

Your first stop is Market Street at DC Ranch where you will peruse store front retailers without the commercial feel of a crowded mall. Browse the boutiques and don’t forget you can purchase gift cards in the salons and eateries to give as gifts as well!

Your next shopping stop is due north.

Sitting just outside of The Boulder’s Resort is an exquisite Moroccan market, El Pedregal Festival Marketplace with 30+ stores and restaurants to be explored this Holiday season. The upscale two-level shopping mall is located at 34505 N. Scottsdale Road and is loaded with boutiques and Native American crafts.

If you head north a few more miles to the eclectic town of Cave Creek there is a smattering of one-of-a-kind locally owned shops. Stop in Frontier Town, The Town Dump, Kiwanis Marketplace and the other shops located along both sides of Cave Creek Road. You’ll find authentic gems and crystals, cowboy boots, art, antiques, beautifully painted Mexican pottery and furniture, locally roasted coffee and much more.

Now turn and head south to WestWorld in North Scottsdale, the Jackalope Scottsdale Holiday Market features 150+ vendors touting local goods and wares. This free artisan market runs November 26th and 27th and epitomizes the shop small, shop local meme without the frenzy of the mall chaos. There will be DIY workshops, local food, local brews and, of course, local music.

A few miles further south and you will find the most quaint and artistically expressive shopping experience in Scottsdale. Shopping small, shopping local wouldn’t be complete without supporting the ma and pa shops in Old Town and the Arts District of Old Town Scottsdale. It’s a misconception that this is a souvenir haven since the local shops feature some of the finest rugs, art and jewelry in the country. Although the shops on 5th Avenue are a great place to find stocking stuffers!

We understand if you need to purchase those select brand items so instead of purchasing online we ask you to hit the malls locally and Scottsdale has boasting rights to some of the best upscale stores in the world! Yes, world!

Check out the palm-lit shopping villages of Kierland Commons and Scottsdale Quarter in North Scottsdale but save the best for last, Scottsdale Fashion Square in downtown Scottsdale that is the premier mall of the Southwest with over 225+ stores and eateries.
