Scottsdale Is One of the Nation's Top Spots to Retire

According to a recent study conducted by WalletHub, Scottsdale is one of the nation’s best cities for retirement, second only to Tampa, Fla.

The financial website evaluated cities with populations of 100,000 or more and based their findings on criteria such as cost of living, weather, and hospitals. Scottsdale ranked exceptionally high based on the activities it offered to seniors and the quality of life they could expect.

Scottsdale’s “retirement-friendliness,” as the report calls it, shouldn’t come as a surprise to most residents. The city offers a wide array of age-friendly programs through its two senior centers, the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, its parks system, arts venues, and museums. It also hosts the “All Things Senior” expo that draws thousands of attendees every February.

Also worth noting: The WalletHub report ranks Scottsdale as No. 1 in the country for percentage of residents 65 and older among cities with populations of 100,000 or more.

But, the city isn’t only great for retirees. In a study released by online digital management website MyLife.com, Scottsdale is also the best city in the country to raise a family. The study compared the nation’s 100 most-populous cities and determined the ranking based on average family income, cost of living, crime rate, quality of public schools, and the number of public parks per capita.

MyLife.com specifically mentioned that Scottsdale’s public schools, family-friendly events and high average family income propelled it to its No. 1 position.

Scottsdale also earns high marks for its food scene. The city was named second best for U.S. foodies, according to a June 2015 survey released by Livability.com, a website that analyzes the nation’s most livable small to mid-sized cities.

Scottsdale came in just behind New Haven, Conn., based on criteria such as the number of restaurants and bars; where people ate (independent restaurants versus chains); James Beard Award winners and Michelin stars; and access to farmers markets.

The bottom line: Scottsdale is the place to be at any age. Why not make it your home now? Give us a call if you want to chat about the great amenities the city and its communities offer. We are always proud to share our favorite spots in the city!
