Scottsdale for Artists and Art Lovers: Places to Go and Things to See

Scottsdale Art Walk
Every Thursday, the Scottsdale ArtWalk opens in downtown Scottsdale. From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., join your friends and neighbors on a stroll along Main Street from Scottsdale Road to Goldwater Boulevard, and on Marshall Way from Indian School Road to Fifth Avenue. (See the map below.) More than 40 galleries participate in this spectacular weekly event.
The restaurants, museums and galleries along the way are accessible by free trolley rides and horse-drawn carriage rides from the free parking areas throughout the Arts District and downtown.
Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art
Located in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art has a number of rotating exhibitions and a large permanent collection of modern art. The museum is closed on Mondays and major holidays, but it opens at noon Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for students, and free for SMoCA members and kids 15 and under. Admission is free to everyone on Thursdays and after 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West
As a Smithsonian Affiliate Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West has been called the nation’s best Western museum, and it’s teeming with exhibits celebrating the rich histories and culture that were integral parts in forming this part of the country’s human landscape. You’ll find amazing exhibits of western art by local and international artists around every corner, and you can take docent-led tours or attend special events throughout the month.
Scottsdale Artists’ School
The Scottsdale Artists’ School offers adult and youth workshops and ongoing classes to develop and hone your craft. Each course is taught by a nationally recognized artist, regardless of skill level, and the school also hosts open studio nights for the public.
