Scottsdale Development Projects Boost City’s Economic Health for 2015

In case you hadn’t noticed, Scottsdale has ramped up construction with a number of development projects in the works. If you are driving between south Scottsdale and the Airpark on Scottsdale Road, you can't miss the cranes framing the beautiful blue Arizona sky.

Scottsdale Quarter, near the Airpark, is an outdoor shopping experience and the cranes you see to the east are finishing up the third phase of the development to include luxury apartments, more upscale retail stores and the much needed additional parking. But the construction may not stop there—there's a rumor that a 150 room hotel is in the planning process and will abutt the outdoor shopping district to complete the project.

Head due south on Scottsdale Road and you will see the construction activity outside of Arizona’s largest shopping center, Scottsdale Fashion Square. They are making room for a new 14-screen theater complete with a lobby bar to replace both the Harkin’s Camelview 5 that currently sits on the northwest exterior of the mall and the 7 screen theater inside the mall.

Head further south on Scottsdale Road and you will see the finishing touches being put on SkySong’s third building that already has a 90% lease commitment rate. The four-story, 145,000 sq. ft. office and research building won the LEED award and features sustainable design that includes the use of native plants species and high-efficiency irrigation technology to reduce over 73% of the typical water consumption in a building of this magnitude. This green build also boasts a high efficiency design with an energy cost savings of 24% a year, and over 33% of the building materials specified and manufactured using recycled materials.

SkySong's fourth-tower is projected for construction in 2016 will be the finishing touches for the city’s partnership with ASU. This will complete the 1.2 million square foot mixed-use project featuring Class A commercial office space, research facility and its new off-site SkySong Apartments that were completed last fall.

Cranes in the sky line are a pretty thing this time of year! Especially ones that are moving.
