For a culinary delight and to experience the true flavor of the Southwest, you’ll want to head down to the Maricopa Salsa Festival in Maricopa City this weekend. From Scottsdale, it’s about a 30 minute drive but well worth the trip when you find out what is in store for your taste buds.
Hot, mild and unusual are the three salsa categories where the chefs will duke it out. Bean dips and guacamole will be included in the fare but the true focus of it all will be on that red dip with a zip - salsa! With over 50 different offerings of salsa at the festival, you’ll move from table to table sampling with an opportunity to pick the winner in the People’s Choice category.
The Salsa Festival is celebrating its 11th year and it just keeps getting better and better. It’s what we do best in Arizona: throw great parties, and there are few that salsa doesn’t turn up at, even if it’s disguised as a marinade.
What better way to introduce yourself to another part of our county, then a drive down to celebrate salsa in the City of Maricopa? Bring a blanket and the family to enjoy traditional and contemporary Mexican and Latin music at the Great Lawn Amphitheater at Copper Sky Recreation Facility.
The tasting is free to the public and runs from 3:00 -5:00 pm. with the entertainment, beer garden and kids’ activities closing down at 7:00 pm.
