It’s Spring and with that comes outdoor lawn projects, many which require digging. If you are a "DIYer", you only need to make one simple call before you dig, and that’s to 811. A lot of homeowners and even some professional landscapers and excavators are not aware that one call gets you all the information you will need to dig around those underground utility lines. And the good news? It’s free!
You’ll want to give them at least two days after you call. They will come out and mark your property so you’ll know where it’s safe to dig. Some digging mistakes can be life-threatening; others just costly.
Plus, you don’t want the entire neighborhood up in arms with you by interfering with their gas or electrical service. And the real downside is you can potentially be held responsible for injuries to others and repair costs.
Whether your project is large or small, be safe and call 811.
