The Thunderbird School of Global Management (found here) is planning to merge with ASU (found here) to become the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University.
On July 3rd, ASU published an article discussing the merger. At this point, Thunderbird and ASU have both agreed to a “letter of intent outlining the general terms under which the integration would take place”.

If the deal goes through, Thunderbird will complement ASU’s already established W.P. Carey School of Business, which has 11,000 students and offers full-time MBA, part-time MBA and online MBA programs.
Thunderbird has a strong international reputation, as well as strong global management and executive education programs. Compounded with the W.P. Carey’s reputation for strong research, the new Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University would be a force to be reckoned with in the business world.
According to another article published by the Phoenix Business Journal on July 11, discussions began to take place between the two institutions after a deal between Thunderbird and Laureate Education Inc. fell through earlier this year.
Thunderbird has been experiencing financial difficulties, which is one reason for the merger. The merger would allow Thunderbird to stay afloat, as well as allow students at both institutions to take classes at each school, greatly expanding the number of business courses and programs available to business majors.
If the merger goes through, students could take classes at the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University as early as the fall 2015 academic term.
