Some buy for investment purposes, some for the love of the model, others just to be seen buying a cool set of wheels in one of the biggest public auction forums in the world. But few bid without doing their research!
Being the highest bidder on a vintage car might be more affordable than you think, you just have to know your limits. Of course, you’ll do your homework before you throw your number in the air and the best research is done with the online pricing guides like the National Automotive Dealers Association or by obtaining a car’s value through a professional appraiser.
The cars available for purchase at auction will range from complete rare restorations to dime-a-dozen dusted off Mustangs that need to be moved out of the garage to make room for something more special.
But some cars are in a league of their own and no appraiser can predict a value. It seems the sky is the limit with these higher priced cars and they typically come with a story or have been owned by celebs. Two notable rides on the docket this year include a 1969 LeMans Blue / Black Stripe Z28 with paperwork owned by Reggie Jackson of the New York Yankees and a 1956 Austin Princess that was featured in the documentary Imagine with signed registration by previous owner, John Lennon of the Beatles.
