Do Things Fall Out of Your Garage When you Open the Door? It’s Time to De-Junk!

Thinking about putting your home on the market in 2017?  If so, the number one area of the home that detracts from a showing is the garage!

You might be surprised to learn that buyers take as hard of a look at the garage as they do other areas of the home.  In fact, the garage may be the indicator that tells a prospective buyer how an owner takes care of the rest of their property.

While its a common place to store your treasures in the garage, to a prospective buyer it may look like a bunch of junk.  If your garage is used as a catch-all storage unit, it’s time to clean it out!  With the Holidays coming to a close this is the perfect time to sort, throw away, organize and reassess your storage solutions.

For a few hundred dollars you can walk away from Home Depot, Lowe’s or Walmart with all the necessary shelving, brackets, organizing bins and materials to do a bang up job.  You’ll want to think “vertical” or opt for a sliding storage system on the ceiling of your garage for the best results.

When cleaning out your garage, remember to remove as many items from the floor as possible and use traditional workbenches not cabinetry, if you plan on taking your storage units with you when you leave.

Another important tip, if the HOA allows it move trash and recycling bins outside and out of sight.
