Arizona is proud to announce the Desert Foothills Land Trust (DFLT) has recently received national kudos for its dedication and on-going commitment to land conservation here in the Southwest.
Arizona Desert Hiking Trails
DFLT just earned accreditation from The Land Trust Accreditation Commission and joins 350 other land trusts across the US. Accreditation is no small feat and requires adherence to rigorous standards to demonstrate an on-going fiscal accountability, strong organizational leadership, and lasting stewardship of land conservation.
If you’ve ever been hiking miles out from the trailhead and come across the volunteers working in the searing sun, you suddenly gain an appreciation of what it truly takes to keep these areas pristine and open to the public.
On over 670+ acres throughout Scottsdale, North Phoenix, Anthem, Carefree and Cave Creek there is plenty to discover. There are hundreds of trails on 23 preserves and some of the preserves are open to the public while others are private in order to preserve petroglyphs and fragile flora and fauna for our future generations.
A special event “Discovery Day 2016” is planned to highlight the Jewel of the Creek Preserve on November 19th from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in Cave Creek. This is a special opportunity for the public to learn about the diversity of life in the beautiful Sonoran Desert, and to gain an understanding of the geology of the surrounding landscape!
Stations will be set up along the Harry Dalton Trail where kids can collect stamp to add to their goody bag. Crafts, live animals, activities and refreshments are free to the public who are welcome to just drop in. Groups of 10+ are encouraged to contact DFLT at (480) 488-6131 or [email protected].
