On Tuesday, July 29, eight candidates running for Scottsdale city council faced-off in a pre-election forum at Troon Country Club, and they addressed questions from voters.

Voting at the primary level is important to our legislative process and Scottsdale’s future. The issues on the City Council’s current agenda are key to keeping our area attractive to current and future residents. We attended the discussion on Tuesday evening to learn about the issues that are important to residents of North Scottsdale.
The meeting was an open forum. Prior to the 2 hour session, voters submitted questions. Candidates each had 3 minutes to address the most common questions. Here are some of them:
- 1. ‘How will you protect our North Scottsdale community with the high-density housing planned for our area?
- 2. ‘Between 2003 and 2008 $150M was in the city’s capital expenditure fund; do you know how that money was spent?’
- 3. ‘With new high density housing being planned for many parts of Scottsdale, including North Scottsdale, who is responsible for the cost of infrastructure (roads, parking, water, sewer, etc.) for these communities?’
- 4. ‘Is Scottsdale going to acquire the remaining land for the McDowell Sonoran Preserve’? The city owns 30,000 acres and another 6,000 acres identified to complete the Preserve.

Don’t forget that the primary is on Tuesday, August 26 – during that vote, 3 city council members will be elected. Any unfilled offices after the primary will be on the ballot on Tuesday, November 4, 2014.
