The Smithsonian Magazine is hosting its annual “Museum Day Live!” this Saturday, September 27 and Cave Creek Museum is one of the Valley’s museums that is participating in the event. The event’s purpose is to encourage the Smithsonian Museums’ spirit by offering free admission for the day (admission to the Smithsonian is always free.)

Cave Creek Museum is located just north of Scottsdale. It is home to a large array of artifacts including prehistoric and historic pieces reflecting how local indians, miners and ranchers lived in the Valley.

This special event is open to the public from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm this Saturday. You can obtain your free Museum Day tickets online for the event.

There is also a member reception from 4:30 – 7:00 pm that evening.

New exhibits at the museum include updates to the Golden Key Stamp Mill, hand-tooled saddles dating from the 1890’s to the 1950’s, and an exhibit showcasing what was called “Arizona’s Greatest Battle” in 1857 where the O’Odham indians (Papago-Pima) and the Piipaash (Maricopa) fought their enemies in the west for land rights.
