Did you know: The Gammage Auditorium was originally a design for an opera house to be built in Baghdad, Iraq?
ASU President, Grady Gammage, called on his close friend, Frank Lloyd Wright, back in 1957 to design a unique university auditorium. The work was accomplished in the last two years of Wright’s life with the finishing designs completed by his aide, William Welsey Peters.
Sad to say, neither Wright nor Peters lived to see the completed design that stands 80 feet high and measures 300 by 250 feet with two pedestrian bridges extending 200 feet like welcoming arms. The 3,000-seat performance hall has three levels of seating, with the furthest seat only 115 feet from the stage. So all seats are great seats!
The Gammage Auditorium is located on the ASU Campus at 1200 S. Forest Avenue in Tempe.
