Starbucks Evenings is coming to Scottsdale.
According to ABC 15, the city of Scottsdale has approved liquor licenses for three Starbucks to begin serving craft beers and wines along with small plates after 4 p.m. While not set in stone, the location at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard near the Loop 101 freeway is expected to become the first in the Valley to offer the new concept, Starbucks Evenings, beginning in January.
The other Scottsdale locations include the Starbucks in McCormick Ranch and the one in Old Town Scottsdale. Over the next year, it’s estimated that up to 12 other Starbucks locations in Arizona—including ones in downtown Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler and Peoria—will join the Scottsdale locations in serving alcohol in the evenings.
Starbucks Evenings was launched in 2010 when the company introduced beer and wine at two locations in Seattle. The concept has since expanded to other locations in Seattle, Portland, Los Angles, Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Orlando, and beyond. The Phoenix area is one of the latest target markets.
With the exception of new furnishings and a makeover to give the interior a more lounge-like atmosphere, little will change during the day at Scottsdale locations offering the Starbucks Evenings experience. Underage baristas will also be transferred to Starbucks locations that do not serve alcohol.
After 4 p.m., though, craft beers and wines, including some local offerings, will be available. The small plate items usually don’t vary by region. Expect items such as truffle macaroni and cheese, flatbread, cheese platters, and bacon-wrapped dates with balsamic glaze.
What if you need your late night Caramel Frappuccino fix? Don’t worry. Starbucks with evening alcohol service will continue to serve coffee and tea drinks until closing.
