When you’re selling your home in winter, staging is just as important as it is during the summer – but a lot of sellers don’t realize it, particularly if they’re in a hurry to sell.

And that means it’s a lot easier to make your home stand out through beautiful staging.

Check out these four winter staging tips to make sure you have the most attractive home possible:

  • Go all out on curb appeal
  • Keep the house toasty
  • Light a fire
  • Add seasonal scents

4 Winter Staging Tips You Need to Sell Your Home

Your Real Estate Agent will walk through your home with you to point out areas that could use a little TLC. He or she might suggest removing extra furniture, taking down eclectic décor or repainting in more neutral colors – but you can take these tips, too, and make sure you’re tackling home staging from every angle.

Go All Out on Curb Appeal

You’re not going to have to worry about shoveling snow, but you will have to keep on top of lawn maintenance and make sure your home is spotless on the outside. You may want to paint your front door, have the exterior of your home professionally cleaned, and replace any burned-out path lighting or porch lights.

It’s also a good idea to put a winter-themed welcome mat in front of the door, add winter-inspired potted plants (like evergreens) on the porch, and make sure everything is neat as a pin so it gives buyers the impression that it’s easy to maintain.

Keep the House Toasty

You don’t have to turn on the heat for 70-degree days, but the average temperature here has a high of 66 in December, 67 in January and 71 in February – and that’s just an average high temperature. You know that our mornings and evenings can be extra-chilly, so make sure you turn on the heat before prospective buyers come through if it’s going to be under 70.

Light a Fire

Nothing embraces winter like a crackling fire in a fireplace does. Naturally, if it’s an unseasonably warm day, skip it – but if it’s chilly enough, you can use the fireplace to kick-start your prospective buyers’ imaginations. They’ll be able to picture themselves sipping hot cocoa in front of the fireplace, and the more of a buyer’s senses you can appeal to, the better.

Add Seasonal Scents

It should go without saying that your home needs to be spotless. But on top of that, think about mulling seasonal spices, like oranges, cinnamon or cloves on the stove or baking a fresh batch of cookies and putting them out where your guests can help themselves. You can also brew a pot of coffee for your guests, and put out paper cups with lids so they can take it to go.
