5 High-Octane Adventures in Scottsdale

Whether you’re after an intellectual challenge or a physical one, there’s an adventure for you in or near Scottsdale. These are five of the most popular outside-the-box attractions in the area:

  1. Escape the Room AZ
  2. iFLY Indoor Skydiving
  3. Backyard Axe Throwing League
  4. AZ on the Rocks
  5. Octane Raceway

Here’s a closer look at each.

Escape the Room AZ

Escape the Room AZ
7017 East Main Street

Escape the Room AZ puts all your mental prowess to the test. This exceptionally popular escape room offers a huge range of puzzles, including Jurassic Escape, The Agency, The Submarine and The Dig, that you have to solve to free yourself and your companions. Designed for problem-solvers of all skill levels, these challenging puzzles encourage teamwork (work together or lose the game) – but don’t worry; you can call for three emergency hints if you need them.

iFLY Indoor Skydiving

iFLY Indoor Skydiving
9206 Talking Stick Way

iFly Indoor Skydiving is as close to the real thing as you can get while you’re on the ground. Your heart will race as you navigate the exhilarating winds that take entertainment to a whole new level. One of Arizona’s most unique entertainment venues, iFly offers low and high flights (high flights last 15 to 20 seconds during your flight and are only available to guests 260 pounds or less). Fliers must be at least 40 inches tall to participate.

Backyard Axe Throwing League

Backyard Axe Throwing League
7919 East Thomas Road

Backyard Axe Throwing League (BATL for short) is the most popular axe-throwing venue in Central Arizona, and it’s easy to see why – they offer quick lessons on axe-throwing, then you get to play for points on your own. You can throw for one or two hours at a time, have a party with a dedicated axe-throwing coach, or go with a private group of two or more. BATL also serves food and beer so you can enjoy dinner before or after your adventure.

AZ on the Rocks

AZ on the Rocks
16447 North 91st Street

AZ on the rocks is the perfect place to rock climb in the comfort of air conditioning – so whether you’re an experienced climber or you’re a novice, this is the place for you. You’ll have all the climbing and safety gear you need to have a great time as you scramble, crawl and pull your way up more than 14,000 square feet of climbing terrain. There are easy and hard courses – and everything in between – where you can perfect your technique and have some wholesome, physical fun for hours.

Octane Raceway

Octane Raceway
9119 East Talking Stick Way

Kick your fun into high gear at Octane Raceway, which offers high-speed race karts (up to 45 miles per hour) on a 1/3-mile indoor-outdoor track, the Velocity VR free-roam multiplayer virtual reality arena, a full arcade and minim bowling. The Brickyard Grill, the bar and restaurant attached to Octane Raceway, has an extensive (and delicious) menu so you can enjoy yourself there for hours.
