Discover Fine Art at the Arizona Fine Art Expo in Scottsdale

  • 03/10/16
It’s not too late to head out to the Arizona Fine Art Expo, located in the massive white tents at the southwest corner of Scottsdale and Jomax roads in Scottsdale. The expo began January 22, but runs through April 3 and features up to 120 artists from around the world creating everything from oil paintings to Lego sculptures.

Hosted by the Thunderbird Artists, the 12th annual expo combines a gallery atmosphere in the 44,000-square-foot tent space with an opportunity to see the artists in a studio setting, according to the event’s website. You can browse the booths featuring watercolors, oil paintings, sculptures, jewelry, ceramics, furniture, photographs, and more. You can even ask questions as you watch an artist work.

Even though artists come from across the country and abroad to attend, most of the artists are based in the Southwest. They work in mediums ranging from paint, wood, and metal to gourds, kaleidoscopes, and even Legos.

In addition to the artists and the art on display, the expo holds workshops, demonstrations, wine tastings, and other events throughout the duration of the show. Past events have included cocktail parties, book signings, and ice cream socials.

Outside, you can stroll through one of the Valley’s largest sculpture gardens, which has more than 100 pieces on display, a koi pond, and a waterfall. There’s also a sitting area and a café, and on weekends, you can listen to live music. Also outside, you’ll find work areas where some of the artists blow glass, fire Raku, weld metal art, and carve stone.

Before you leave, make a point of stopping by the gift shop where you can purchase souvenirs, cards, shirts, posters, and decorative items for your home.

The Arizona Fine Art Expo is open daily from 10 am-6 pm. Admission is $10 for a season pass, $8 for seniors and military, and free for children 11 and under. The season pass will allow you to return as often as you want to the expo. If access to the artists is a priority, consider going during the middle of the week or later in the afternoons when there are fewer crowds.

This is just another of the many amazing events we have in Scottsdale year-round! If you're a local living in a nearby community, check it out for the first time, and if you're looking for an excuse to take a vacation and get out of a colder climate, come check out the local art our community offers.
