For a wonderful family adventure, head out to Butterfly Wonderland in Scottsdale. The main attraction is the butterfly atrium, and with the luck of the gods, a butterfly may just land on you for a short intimate eye-to-eye visit.
There are thousands of these fragile and beautiful insects of flight in the 10,000 square foot rainforest conservatory, complete with koi pond and a butterfly bench. Your only job is to admire the little creatures, snap as many photos as you can, be careful not to step on any butterflies, and DO NOT TOUCH THEM.
Did someone say photo op? You’ll want to bring your camera and keep it at the ready for that once-in-a-lifetime shot. In addition to the butterflies, there is a bee colony, ant farm, fish from the Amazon and a stingray touch tank. The visual and sensory enjoyment of this land of magic just can’t be expressed in words.
Don’t skip the specially-edited 3D movie, “Flight of the Butterflies,” that takes you through the four stages of a butterfly’s life. It only lasts about 15 minutes, and the kids will love it. With the help of 3D glasses, the butterflies appear to be flying right in front of you.
Need a unique gift? You can stop by the gift shop any day of the week from 9:00 – 5:00 p.m. without paying the admission price. They have a wide variety of gifts in all price ranges and for all ages and the focus is not just on butterflies.
Butterfly Wonderland is located at the Via de Ventura exit on the east side of the Loop 101 Freeway in Scottsdale.
Did you know? There are more than 300 species of butterflies in Arizona alone.
