Top 7 Spots to Get the Best Cup of Coffee in Scottsdale

If you live in Scottsdale and need a jolt of java to start your day, you’re in luck! Scottsdale has some of the Valley’s best coffeehouses and roasters. Here are our favorites:

Cartel Coffee Lab

Over the last seven years, Cartel Coffee Lab has grown from one shop in Tempe, where it still roasts coffee in the open, to seven including one in Terminal 4 at Sky Harbor Airport and another in Tucson. The Scottsdale location on Fifth Avenue is a great place to meet a friend for mid-morning coffee or gather after ArtWalk on Thursday evenings. Cartel Coffee Lab also serves light food, craft beer, and wine. 7124 E. 5th Avenue.

Press Coffee Roasters

Located in the Scottsdale Quarter Marketplace, Press Coffee Roasters focuses on quality, carefully selecting the beans (most are organic and all are Fair Trade) and then roasting them in small batches. The result is considered one of the best cups of coffee in the Valley. Want to find out what makes their coffee standout? Register online for a tour of their roastery in South Phoenix. 15147 N. Scottsdale Rd., Suite 102.

Village Coffee Roasters

Brewing a great cup of Joe is both art and science at this McCormick Ranch staple. The coffeehouse uses a patented scientific process, shared with only 12 other roasters in the world, and a Sasa Samiac roaster, imported from France, to create consistently superior coffee. Art lovers will appreciate the works by local artists hanging on the walls, and on the weekends, you can listen to live music here, too. 8120 N. Hayden Rd., #E104.

Maverick Coffee

Recently opened, Maverick Coffee has a unique industrial look while still feeling cozy. They partnered with the famous Ritual Coffee Roasters in San Francisco and are the only coffee shop to feature Ritual Coffee in Arizona. Their Australian ownership also means you’ll find delicious meat pies, as well as a selection of fresh baked goods and teas. 10269 N. Scottsdale Rd.

Altitude Coffee Lab

Owners Paul Musikanth and former professional golfer Craig Matthew attended Origin barista training school in South Africa to hone their brewing skills and source beans before opening this McCormick Ranch coffee hotspot. Order breakfast or lunch, including grilled pizza, if you get the munchies while sipping java. 8320 N. Hayden Rd.

Sip Coffee & Beer House

This isn’t your typical coffee spot. In addition to a killer cup of coffee made from beans roasted at Cartel Coffee Lab, Sip Coffee & Beer offers 19 rotating craft beers on tap and more than 100 bottled beers, as well as handcrafted cocktails. They also have a light menu of snacks and paninis. A word of warning, though—if you’re looking for a quiet place to hang and talk, this isn’t it. Loud music is a big part of the Sip scene. 3617 N. Goldwater Rd.

Echo Coffee

You won’t find a chalkboard listing the coffees of the day at Echo Coffee. That’s because baristas want to discuss your likes and dislikes and direct you to the brew that best fits what you’re looking for in your cup of coffee. Like the other shops on this list, you can make use of the shop’s free WiFi while hanging out with friends or sipping your latte. 2902 N. 68th St., Suite 135.

We are big supporters of other local businesses, and these coffee shops just scratch the surface on some of our favorite spots around town.
