Winter in July

Are you looking for some "cool" fun this July? Look no further than Winter in July at the Phoenix Zoo when they unload over 40 tons of snow for kids, adults and animals. Watch out for the weather advisory in effect from 7:00am to 11:00am on July 15th when every 30 minutes snow flurries are predicted. It’s guaranteed these blizzard conditions will treat the kids to enough white powder for snow angels and snowmen!

Once you’re chilled to the bone head out to watch the exotic animals enjoy icy treats of their own with scheduled Chilly Creature Features throughout the day. The little kiddos, 5 and under, have their own toddler snow pile and will enjoy the more mild wet and wild splash areas.

After a walk around the park, duck back into the cool with a 4-D theater experience of Happy Feet. You’ll enjoy travels to the Antarctica to meet a colony of Emperor Penguins and participate in their antics as they try to deal with the humans stealing their fish. Admission to the zoo is $19.95 per adult, $9.95 ages 3 to 13 and the snow activities are free with general admission. Happy Feet is a special ticket event at $5 a head.

Arizona Get Outdoors Expo

In the North Scottsdale area head over to WestWorld’s Arizona Get Outdoors Expo for two days of indoor fun doing outdoor activities! Not even triple digit heat can stop Arizonans from staying active and they have the perfect 300,000 square foot air-conditioned venue to do just that!

There’ll be a catch-and-release fishing pond, a rock climbing wall, 3D archery and a corn hole tournament with cash and prizes for both social and advanced divisions. One of the entertainment highlights is the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show featuring World Champ lumberjacks. There’ll be a huge boat display, vendors galore covering anything imaginable related to the out-of-doors, educational seminars, demos and hands-on activities!

Come out, get active and stay cool on either Saturday, July 15 from 10am-4pm or Sunday, July 16 from 11am-3pm. Admission is $8 for ages 13 and up and military and first responders get in free!

Real Wild & Woody Beer Festival

It’s only fair that the adults get their very own cool activity so head downtown Phoenix to the Convention Center for the Real Wild & Woody Beer Festival. This year the Grand Canyon State celebrates 30 years of brewing and this is an opportunity to taste in-state wines, craft brews and AZ brand products! Doors open at 2:00pm and with an event this big plan on long lines at the door, but no worries you’ll be standing indoors in cool air-conditioning as you que to get into the festival. General admission is $57 for 20 beer samples and small bites; designated drivers get in for $25 and are indulged on small bites but no the booze.
