If you’re thinking about selling your home in Scottsdale, spring is a great time – and it coincides with spring cleaning. Check out these seven essential spring cleaning tips to get your home ready to sell.
7 Essential Spring Cleaning Tips to Help You Sell Your Home
These seven spring cleaning tips will help you get your house in great shape – and they’ll help buyers appreciate how easy your home is to live in:
- Use vinegar for lime buildup
- Steam-clean your tile floors
- Invest in fresh doormats
- Empty out your junk drawer… for good
- Clean grout with vinegar and baking soda
- Pack away your winter clothes
- Give your baseboards some TLC
Here’s a closer look at each.
Spring Cleaning Tip #1: Use vinegar for lime buildup
Vinegar eats away at lime buildup all over the house – and it’s safe to use. Use these tips:
- Fill a plastic bag with vinegar and rubber-band it around your shower heads to allow them to soak (or remove your shower heads and place them in a bag or bowl of vinegar). Let the shower head sit for a few hours, then rinse and clean normally.
- Pour a cup of vinegar in your commode and let it sit for a few hours. Then, scrub normally.
- Run your dishwasher with a cup of distilled white vinegar on the top shelf to clear limescale from its inside walls.
Spring Cleaning Tip #2: Steam-clean your tile floors
Rent a steam cleaner from your favorite home improvement store and give your tile some TLC. You can also hire someone to perform the job if you’re not feeling it.
Spring Cleaning Tip #3: Invest in fresh doormats
If you’re selling your home – or even if you’re not – spring is the perfect time to invest in new doormats. Place one outside each entrance to your home, including the garage; concrete dust can easily make its way into your house (and you may be surprised at just how much dust your garage floor can generate).
Spring Cleaning Tip #4: Empty out your junk drawer… for good
When prospective buyers come to tour your home, they can – and probably will – open drawers, cabinets and cupboards. And although everyone has a junk drawer, you don’t want buyers to see yours. Now is the perfect time to find everything its own space and get rid of your junk drawer for good.
Spring Cleaning Tip #5: Clean grout with vinegar and baking soda
Clean your grout with a spritz of vinegar and some baking soda. First, lightly dampen the area; then scour it with a cloth dipped in baking soda. If you don’t like the smell of vinegar, or if you prefer to use commercial cleaners, go for it – just be mindful that you shouldn’t use dyed cleaners, which can seep into porous grout and discolor it.
Spring Cleaning Tip #6: Pack away your winter clothes
Go through your closets and dresser drawers to remove winter clothing. Pack it away until you move into your new home. The idea behind doing this now is to clear out closet space. Buyers want to see that they’ll have enough room in your closets, and by removing things you won’t wear for several more months, you’re freeing up space and showcasing just how large your closets really are.
Spring Cleaning Tip #7: Give your baseboards some TLC
Often overlooked but very important, the baseboards in your home can be scuffed, dusty or downright dirty. Go through the house and spot-clean your baseboards, paying special attention to the kitchen.
