The 17th Annual Scottsdale International Film Festival kicks off this week and it’s bigger and better than ever!   No more driving between theaters because this year it all takes place conveniently at one location, Harkins Shea 14. The festival launched back in ’01 with only 11 films and has progressively grown to more than 60+ films!

Five days of back-to-back films that will whet anyone’s appetite!  This year’s schedule is packed with options ranging from major Academy Award winners to little known indie gems!  Opening night debuts, The Ballad of Lefty Brown and the closing night film is The Last Flag Flying.  Sandwiched in between is over 50+ films with themes ranging from Jewish and Middle Eastern, Far East,  Eastern European to Legends of Music and LGBTQ themes.  Movie goers will also enjoy documentaries and fresh short stories.  There are 12 movies supported by women directors!

This year’s special guests include Paul Becker, BREAKING BROOKLYN; Jared Moshe’, THE BALLAD of LEFTY BROWN; Lori Stoll, HEAVEN’S FLOOR; Matteo Vicino,  LOVERS; Yonatan Nir, THE ESSENTIAL LINK: THE STORY OF WILFRID ISRAEL; Vice Chancellor Agnes Binagwaho M.D., Ph.D., BENDING THE ARC; and, our very own City of Scottsdale, Councilwoman, Linda Milhaven, who will open the festival!
