The northeast valley Loop 101 Freeway construction started in mid-August, and work to expand the freeway by one lane in each direction is well underway. Beginning last Sunday, September 28, the on/off ramps at both 90th Street (just south of Shea Boulevard) and McKellips (south of McDowell Road) have closed for construction.
The Loop 101 widening project is expected to take over two years to complete and involves an 11 mile stretch of freeway between Shea Boulevard and the 202 Freeway.
The 90th Street on/off ramps will be closed through Sunday, October 5 and ready for Monday morning commuter traffic. The bridges on Pima/90th Street are being widened, and the added lanes are being completed in this portion of the freeway at the same time.
The McKellips Road on/off ramps are closed until Monday, November 3rd at 5:00 am. Widening of the on/off ramps is underway there.
