La Parada Del Sol is a month long celebration of events happening in the heart of downtown Scottsdale. This year it was kicked off by the Hashknife Pony Express Mail Delivery and will be followed by the annual Parada del Sol Parade and Trail’s End celebration mid-February, culminating with the professional Parada del Sol Rodeo at the end of the month.
The Parada del Sol Parade, touted as the “World’s Largest Horsedrawn Parade,” will strut its stuff in downtown Scottsdale on Saturday, February 14th starting at 10:00 am. But you might want to get there about fifteen minutes early for the pre-parade cattle drive that follows the same route as the parade–a reminder that it was cattle that the West was built on.
This year’s Grand Marshal is none other than The Scottsdale Charros, who’s legacy of charitable giving and innovative programs has literally helped shape the “The West’s Most Western Town”. It’s a great little historic parade with over 150 parade entries for this year and perfect for families and people of all ages.
The Trail’s End Celebration that immediately follows the parade is met with just as much fanfare if not more, when kids of all ages turn out for a huge block party that runs between Brown and Scottsdale Roads on 1st Avenue. There is a main stage where there will be live music, pony rides for the kids, Old West gunfights, trick roping and special food and merchandise vendors in addition to the hundreds of adjacent local shops for lunch and an afternoon shopping spree.
Both the parade and block party are free to the public. So put on your cowboy hat, pointy-toe boots, chaps if you have ‘em and round up the kiddos and head out to the 62nd Annual Parada del Sol. You’ll want to bring your camping chairs, blankets for the kids, and bottled water for a great day of fun!
